Born in Guangzhou, China, Gerry spent his childhood in Hong Kong and came to the UK in his teens. He completed his secondary education in Manchester, followed by attendance at York University, from where he graduated with a degree in Mathematics & Philosophy.
In 1977 he embarked on a career in accountancy, until his father requested that he join the family business, the Yang Sing restaurant. With very little business and managerial experience, he worked hard to develop his own unique and individual style, which contributed to the success of the business.
The Yang Sing has now been extended to include Cathay Dim Sum and Orient Xpression in Manchester’s Trafford Centre. July 2008 will bring the opening of Yang Sing Oriental, a 48 bedroom boutique hotel in unique Oriental style. He also runs a successful building/development business, KS & KM Yeung.
