Public Sector Relocation

public Sector RelocationManchester has a long tradition of supporting the public sector with many non-departmental Government bodies (NDPB) such as the British Council, General Medical Council (GMC) and Ofsted having a significant presence in the region.

Manchester provides an excellent environment for the delivery and sustainability of high quality services with experienced, innovative and enthusiastic professionals that are the envy of other cities. The sector currently employs more than 68,000 people across the city region and contributes more that £2 billion in GVA.

Manchester City Region has proved to be the first choice location for a number of public sector agencies including the Department for Work and Pensions and HM Revenue & Customs and the growing hub of NDPBs is now creating genuine career progression in Manchester at all levels within the civil service.

In recent years Manchester has welcomed the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) both of which have chosen to relocate substantial operations to Manchester from London. The TDA relocated 350 roles to the region, opening its doors in April 2009, while NICE operates under a model where two thirds of staff are located in Manchester and the remainder are in the Southeast.

This model of operation, which is also operated by GMC, is made easier as Manchester has a complementary service sector offer to London. The connection between the two cities is first class, now with three trains an hour taking just two hours, and by utilising facilities in both locations, organisations can maximise operational efficiency and improve overall performance.

Manchester continues to be an attractive location with public sector agencies bringing over 1,500 new jobs to the region in recent years with more relocations projects coming through from the BBC and The Arts Council National Support Centre.
