Hotels & Leisure

The hospitality and tourism sector is a significant contributor to the overall economy of Manchester City Region, generating up to £1.6 billion in GVA annually, and employing an estimated 109,300 people.

The region is one of the UK's leading conference destinations, regularly hosting leading international conferences along with UK political party conferences. This is thanks to more than 250 outstanding venues, including a world class convention centre complex.

Activity within the hotel market is on the rise and has increased significantly in cities where previous residential schemes can be developed into a hotel project. Manchester Airport and Salford Quays offer key hotel schemes and throughout Manchester City Region a large number of local authorities have included a hotel in their town centre re-development plans.

In terms of inward investment, hotel re-development is significant as it supports the region’s attractiveness to both business and leisure visitors.

MIDAS is proactively co-ordinating the hotel market across Manchester City Region to encourage and retain investment in the sector. This is done through the identification of gaps within the current hotel market both in terms of type and size of offer, and secondly to support existing hoteliers through assessment of potential growth areas and future demand streams to support the increasing bedstock.

MIDAS also works with the Manchester Hoteliers Association which is dedicated to support the vibrant Manchester hotel scene and has set a goal to ensure members have a voice to influence policy making, marketing, careers and tourism activities.
