13 June, 2008 – Business Leadership Council appoints Chairman
The Association for Greater Manchester Authorities' Business Leadership Council has appointed John Early as their chairman.
John Early, a partner in Genera8 Developments LLP, has been appointed chairman of the 15-person council which will advise AGMA on policies and priorities.
Early, who was executive director of AMEC Plc until 2007, also has been chairman of the Manchester Central Convention Complex since 2005. He is a past president of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and a director of Manchester Enterprise and the Manchester and Salford Housing Market Renewal Partnership.
“AGMA is committed to ensuring a stronger voice for business in shaping policy for the city region, and the new Business Leadership Council will ensure that happens. It is vital that the Council should have a Chair of the highest calibre from day one, and that is what John’s appointment gives us,” said Lord Peter Smith, AGMA’s chairman. “A highly respected businessman, well regarded in the business community, he also understands local government and partnerships, and will ensure that the council exerts real and positive influence.”
AGMA said it will be announcing further appointments to the council over the forthcoming month.
