11 April, 2008 – Communities throughout Greater Manchester get share of funding
Communities minister Baroness Andrews has announced that a raft of new funding has been made available to deprived boroughs of Greater Manchester under the New Deal for Communities (NDC) scheme.
Some £230m has been awarded nationwide to 39 NDC partnerships for 2008/09. The money will be paid through neighbourhood partnerships to help create job opportunities, raise educational achievements and reduce levels of crime.
In Greater Manchester, the awards include include a £7.1m for the Hathershaw and Fitton Hill areas of Oldham, £7m for Heywood, £6.7m for Charlestown and Lower Kersal in Salford and £2.3m for the Beswick & Openshaw districts of Manchester.
