25 January, 2008 – Highways Agency to demonstrate free traffic services to Manchester businesses
Staff from the Highways Agency’s National Traffic Control Centre (NTCC) will be on hand to help Manchester businesses at a free event at Old Trafford on January 29th.
The Agency, which is responsible for operating, maintaining and improving England’s motorway and major ‘A’ road network, has organised the event. It wants to help local businesses by giving them helpful information on traffic conditions to enable them to make informed choices about their journeys.
Manchester businesses that could benefit from attending include logistics firms, entertainment venues, large companies based near the Agency’s network or simply those businesses that want to let their customers, visitors and employees know the latest traffic conditions before they leave.
At the event, staff from the NTCC (based in Birmingham) will be demonstrating a number of traffic information services, including a free electronic system that gives real-time information on any incidents or delays on the motorway or major ‘A’ road network.
The system even shows what is currently being displayed on electronic roadside message signs and the average speed between individual motorway junctions.
The NTCC staff will also show how they can work with an organisation to help minimise congestion for their customers around a large event.
Ian Burgess from the National Traffic Control Centre said: “I would like to encourage any business, organisation or entertainment venue in the Manchester area to come along to our event.
“The Highways Agency is committed to supporting businesses across the region by providing up-to-the-minute travel information and making drivers’ journeys more reliable.”
