20 February, 2008 – John Potter confirmed as University of Bolton's first CMI seminar speaker
International consultant and business psychologist, John Potter, will be the speaker at the University of Bolton's first Chartered Management Institute event on Wednesday 12 March 2008.
Mr Potter has extensive business and management experience having been a consultant for more than 20 years and worked with senior personnel in the public, private, military and education sectors around the world.
He has taught in both higher education and at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, where he developed a unique course on military psychology. More recently, he has been a psychological consultant to a number of reality TV shows and appeared as an expert commentator on the BBC, ITV, CNN and Sky.
Mr Potter’s talk, on the subject of ‘Developing Persuasive Leadership’, will give participants a broad awareness of current thinking on leadership and an insight into how they can develop their own leadership ability to benefit themselves and their organisations.
The talk will focus on the idea that leadership is about developing the capability of an organisation by the development of people within it so that they can reach their potential.
It is an idea based on the principle that leadership is an attribute that can be developed rather than an inherent quality.
In addition, the talk will outline how our thoughts on leadership have developed over the past decades and provides a perspective on what Mr Potter describes as ‘emotionally intelligent’ leadership.
His broad experience has given him a unique perspective on the nature of leadership and how we can develop effective leadership at all levels in our organisations.
The talk is at 6pm (for a 6.30pm start) until 8.30pm on Wednesday, 12 March 2008, in the Deane Suite, the University of Bolton.
