Leading names in the tourism industry were out in force last night at Liverpool’s St Georges Hall for the ‘enjoy England Awards for Excellence’ 2008. Manchester Central, one of the Country’s leading convention complexes, walked away with the Silver in the prestigious Business Tourism category.
Having beaten off strong competition to win the Award for Excellence in Business Tourism at the North West Tourism Awards in October last year, Manchester Central was representing the region in this category. It was the venue’s outstanding versatility, modern facilities and hugely impressive event and conference space, that attracts national and international business to Manchester, which impressed the judges.
The much sought after “enjoy England” Awards, labelled the ‘Tourism Oscars’, are designed to promote healthy industry competition and high standards, helping to ensure England’s place as a world-class destination.
This Award once again highlights Manchester Central as one of the top exhibition and convention destinations in the country.
Commenting on receiving the prestigious accolade, Lesley Tomlinson, Manchester Central’s Chief Executive, said:
“The entire team are thrilled. We have all worked tirelessly over the past two years to position Manchester Central as a premier business destination and this fantastic achievement is a huge boost that shows our hard work has paid off. Since re-branding last year, we have continued to expand our first class technical, operational and catering services and this award proves that we continue to be at the forefront of our industry’s development.”
The re-branding and market re-positioning of Manchester Central Convention Complex in January 2007 has seen the status of the venue grow both nationally and internationally. The new branding brought cohesion to the facilities and a distinct identity conveying clear brand messages. Currently, Manchester Central is undergoing a multi-million pound redevelopment plan to further enhance the venue’s facilities. The development will cost in excess of £20 million.
This was the first year that the ‘enjoy England Awards for Excellence’ were held outside of London. Organised by VisitBritain and sponsored by The Caravan Club, the awards highlight and applaud the best destinations England has to offer.
