12 June, 2008 – MMU Business School students supported by The Institute of Financial Planning
The developing relationship between MMU and the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) spread another shoot recently when six final year BA (Hons) Financial Services students were granted coveted places on the Institute's CFP Fast Track course which took place at the Business School from 2nd-6th June 2008.
The students are all hoping to achieve Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Licence status, the Licence being the worlds leading professional qualification for financial planners. The course represents a significant financial investment (in the region of 10,000) in our students by the Institute, which provided six days of expert tuition from leading practitioners. It reflects the great interest being shown in a career in financial planning by employers and prospective employees alike and highlights the significant steps that have been taken by the Business Schools Accounting & Finance Division to maintain and improve links with professional bodies.
In related news, a team of Business School students has become the first to win the IFPs Team Challenge, sponsored by Seven Investment Management (7IM). Team members Chris Rosiak, Tony Yip, Caolan Gardner and Melissa Kirkpatrick developed a detailed financial plan for a prospective client and presented this to an industry panel, beating off strong competition in the process.
Amongst the judging panel was Justin Urqhart-Stewart of 7IM, a figure very well-known in the Financial Services sector. Justin has arranged for the hard working winners to receive a significant cash prize and a trip to London mid-July, where they will be presented with their trophy at the London Stock Exchange.
