25 April, 2008 – More Top Business Chiefs Join MIDAS Board
MIDAS, Manchester's inward investment agency, has bolstered the private sector contingent of its non-executive board with the recent appointment of two more influential business figures.
Mike Blackburn, North West Regional Director at BT and John Clarke, Regional Property Executive for Tesco will join eleven leading figures from Manchester's public and private sectors on the MIDAS board.
The new appointments add further strength to the board, chaired by Michael Oglesby (of Bruntwood) and which includes the likes of Keith Alderson (Co-op Bank), Malcolm Edge (KPMG), Sue Woodward (ITV Granada) and Paul Horrocks (Guardian Media Group).
The announcement comes as MIDAS achieved record job creation figures for financial year 07/08 and exceeded its investment targets for the third year running.
Both experts in their fields, new board members Mr Blackburn and Mr Clarke are best placed to offer advice and share knowledge of industry and business development in the city region. Blackburn, BT’s North West Regional Director has 15 years’ experience at BT, holding several different roles in government services, most recently as Director of Central and Home Affairs. He has a profound understanding of the local government marketplace and specialist knowledge of the education arena. He is also a trustee of the National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS).
John Clarke, a qualified chartered surveyor, has extensive knowledge of the property industry and heads up Tesco’s North West property office in the city centre. On a personal level, he has recently moved from Herefordshire to Bowdon with his wife and three children and feels this experience has given him a greater understanding of the relocation process and the city region offering.
Michael Oglesby, Chairman of MIDAS said: “It’s important that MIDAS, as the inward investment agency for the city region, benefits from the experience and knowledge of Manchester’s top private sector business people. Mike and John are both experts in their fields with much experience and advice to offer as MIDAS works to continue its success in attracting substantial investment to the city region.”
