29 April, 2008 – Proposed new model of headship for Oldham
Medlock Valley and Mills Hill Primary Schools' governing bodies have just started a six-week consultation (from 28 April to 6 June 2008) on proposals to develop a new and innovative model of school leadership for their schools – a hard federation.
The federation will bring the two schools together into a formal working partnership with one governing body and one Headteacher for both schools.
The two schools will maintain their individual names, school inspections and budgets but will work in partnership to ensure the very best learning opportunities for learners within both schools.
Darran Lee, Headteacher at Mills Hill Primary School will, if established, become the Headteacher of both schools and Executive Principle of what will be known as ‘The Learning Federation,’ with a Head of School acting as the key contact in each of the schools.
Darran Lee said: "This is a unique opportunity to develop a new form of leadership that provides and supports partnership working, securing the very best learning opportunities for staff and the children at both our schools.
"It is exciting to be part of something that is at the forefront of school leadership development and demonstrates the strong commitment of both governing bodies in ensuring the very best practice in Medlock Valley and Mills Hill Primary Schools."
Service Director for Children, Young People and Families Janet Doherty added: "I am delighted that both governing bodies have agreed to consult on this exciting proposal which is about new models of school leadership and securing the best outcomes for children. Bringing together the best practice from both schools has the potential to be an amazing recipe for success."
