31 January, 2008 – Rok Development golfers score £5,500 over par for Alder Hey Children's Hospital
One of the UK's leading children's hospitals has benefited from a donation of £5,500 after property professionals from across the North West and Yorkshire took part in twin golf tournaments organised by Rok Development.
The Rok Development North West and Yorkshire Property Golf Challenge tournaments were organised by Rok Development’s Manchester and Leeds offices and saw 105 teams of two battle it out for a place in the finals held in the stunning surroundings of Portugal’s Algarve.
Rok raised £4,500 through the competition and donations of £500 each from Bank of Scotland and law firm DWF brought the total to £5,500 presented to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, in Liverpool.
Stuart Longbottom, Rok Development Managing Director in the North, said: "Both tournaments were incredibly popular and a great opportunity to bring people together in two areas where Rok Development is an increasingly important part of the local property market.
"We are delighted to have been able to hand over such a substantial cheque to Alder Hey’s Imagine Appeal."
Chris Done from Alder Hey Imagine Appeal added: "We are delighted to receive such a significant contribution to our charity and would like to thank the organisers of the event, all those who took part and Rok Development for choosing Europe’s largest children’s hospital as the beneficiary."
The finals for the Rok Development North West and Yorkshire Property Golf Challenge tournaments 2007 took place on the manicured fairways and greens of the Penina Golf Club and Resort with the results being:
North West – Alistair Pike (of Bank of Scotland) and Andrew Nichol (from law firm DWF) won through against Chris Mulcahy and James Butterworth (of King Sturge’s Manchester Office)
Yorkshire – Richard Thornton (of agents King Sturge) and Alastair Gill (of property development and investment company Helmsley Group) beat Crawford Cole and Jonathan Chapman (of surveyors Smith Cole Wright).
Day two in Portugal saw the finalists from both competitions, together with staff from Rok’s Manchester and Leeds offices, line up in a head to head War of the Roses to defend the pride of their respective counties – with the trophy now residing firmly west of the Pennies thanks to a North West victory.
Andrew Nichol, a real estate partner at DWF in Liverpool and one of the tournament winners, said: "We would like to thank Rok Development for its work in organising the tournaments.
"DWF is a long-term supporter of Alder Hey. It was great to take part in such an enjoyable event and catch up with others in the property industry while at the same time raising funds for such a worthy cause."
Alistair Pike, a director at Bank of Scotland in Liverpool, added: "This event provided an excellent opportunity to make new contacts, whilst also raising funds for the nominated charity."
