Stockport Business Incubator lease signed and sealed

11 March, 2008 – Stockport Business Incubator lease signed and sealed

Stockport's new not-for-profit Community Interest Company, Stockport Business Incubator, which was formed as a result of the efforts of Stockport Council and Broadstone House Ltd, has now signed a lease enabling business space to be made available for the incubation of new businesses.

Councillor Dave Goddard, Leader of Stockport Council and Director of Stockport Incubator Company, met with Richard Sym, Director of Broadstone House Ltd, to sign the lease.

The scheme has been developed, in partnership with the University of Manchester Incubator Company (UMIC), to provide 12,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art workspace and incubation facilities at Broadstone Mill in Reddish.

The space will now be refurbished to provide high quality business incubation facilities, designed to nurture and grow new and small businesses. Space should be available for occupation from August 2008 but enquiries are welcome now.

Councillor Dave Goddard, Leader of Stockport Council, said: "We are eager to invest in and support entrepreneurialism in the borough.

"Stockport Incubator Company will be investing Ј700,000 into this scheme with the aim of helping new and existing businesses to flourish, with the ultimate goal of adding value to the local economy.

"Over 100 jobs and 22 new workspaces and incubation facilities will be created by this initiative."

The project is also a key part of the Council’s wider mill regeneration strategy, which seeks to guide the future development of mill premises throughout Stockport.

Richard Sym, Director of Broadstone House Ltd, said: "We are delighted to welcome the Stockport Business Incubator which joins the Broadstone Mill family of companies in Houldsworth Village.

"For anyone looking to launch a new business, Broadstone provides a flexible and supportive environment."

Tony Walker, Hi-Tec Incubator Manager at UMIC, added: "The Incubator has been in development for three years and has been built on studies from many respected professionals.

"All the reports indicated an incubator will really add value to the area by the creation, development and retention of high value jobs and profitable businesses within a culture of enterprise and innovation."
