7 April, 2008 – University of Salford launches first UK online Occupational Therapy Course
The UK's first ever 100% online postgraduate occupational therapy course has been launched by the University of Salford – giving students across the globe the chance to study entirely online via a virtual learning environment and other social networking platforms.
Starting in September, the MSc Advanced Occupational Therapy is the first course of its kind to be delivered solely via the internet, without any need for attendance at lectures or seminars.
The part-time course will offer an opportunity for students from the UK and the rest of the world to engage in critical debate with each other via collaborative technologies such as blogging, wikis and podcasts.
Angela Hook, one of programme leaders, said: "This programme is truly pioneering. We want to encourage a close online learning community and we will be providing students will all the tutorial and technical support they need to learn effectively."
The course will be delivered mainly via the University’s Virtual Learning Environment which offers learning materials, regular online tutorials and gateways to Web 2.0 applications like wikis and social networking sites. It is aimed at UK and international occupational therapists.
