The Innovation Manchester Boardroom launched on 24th September at a lively gathering of over 70 innovative thinkers and players.
The Boardroom will seek to capture the enthusiasm, expertise and energy of the city region’s most innovative people to tackle some of the city region’s big challenges, develop innovative solutions, and turn them into action for the benefit of all.
Speaking at the launch event held at Pinsent Mason’s offices in Spinningfields, Sir Richard Leese, Chairman of Manchester: Knowledge Capital said: “Any successful city region must keep up with the changing needs of its businesses and its communities: this in itself requires innovation and constant renewal, and a we need new ways of achieving this.”
Manchester: Knowledge Capital’s CEO, Dr Cathy Garner said: “The Innovation Boardroom is about taking Manchester’s legendary partnership working to new heights to accelerate the city-region’s progress towards being one of the most innovative places in Europe.”
Sir Richard set out the vision for Manchester in five years time as the city that the rest of the world looks to for inspiration on how to build a diverse community of innovators. The place with an internationally admired creative buzz, where the cross-fertilisation of ideas and their
transformation into action happens naturally.
The Innovation Manchester Boardroom builds on the experience and success of the Innovation Manchester Teams, which was initiated by Manchester: Knowledge Capital and partners last year. Business leaders from across the city region were brought together to identify what needs to happen in their sectors to drive up innovation. The results speak for themselves – ideas emerging from Innovation Manchester which have become live projects include: Manchester Masters; FabLabs; Creative Open Access; Technology Working for You; to name but a few.
The Boardroom is not just an event; it is a Mancunian network that can grow and may one day be looked back on as a significant development in the city-region’s history of transformation. Those who would like to find out more, can join the Innovation Manchester group and/or follow the Innovation Manchester blog or join the conversation on Twitter.
Over the years Manchester has given the world many great firsts (from the first Co-operative principles to the first test tube baby). The Innovation Manchester Boardroom hopes to spark the next generation of Manchester Firsts.
