MIDAS, Manchester’s Inward Investment Agency and the Manchester mHealth Ecosystem are holding a one-day conference next week for Greater Manchester’s digital businesses to engage with and explore opportunities in the booming healthcare industry.
The event will take place at The Sharp Project on Thursday 19 September (09:30 – 16:00).
Manchester is home to Europe’s second largest and fastest growing creative, digital and media hub and the scale of the sector puts the region in a prime position to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the healthcare industry.
The mHealth Ecosystem brings together the city’s world-class academic sector, multinational industry, innovative SMEs, patients and healthcare organisations, in an environment committed to accelerating the adoption of technology.
Amongst others, the event will include sessions with NHS practitioners, computer giant Dell and Keepitusable, who have developed Qwell, an online adult mental health counselling web application. The event will also provide further information about the funding options that exist for SMEs looking to break into digital health.
Tim Newns, chief executive of MIDAS, said: “It is believed that digital innovations in healthcare are capable of saving the NHS up to £20 billion a year and the digital health movement is important because it is disrupting an industry that is in desperate need of a shake up.
“Technology has the potential to bring transparency, lower healthcare spending, and build healthier communities – just look at the success and praise heaped on the innovative move by Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust to become England’s only e-enabled Trust.
“This Digital Health event is one of a number of initiatives we’re working on to help Manchester’s digital companies engage with the healthcare sector for business opportunities, evaluate the market and examine entry strategies.”
