The 2nd edition of the Manchester Animation Festival has been officially announced, returning to HOME Manchester on 15, 16, 17 November 2016.
Speaking at the launch event, Mackinnon and Saunders co-founder Ian Mackinnon talked of the making of the Manchester Animation Festival Award, which has become a much sought after emblem of the festival.
This year three awards will be given to winners in the following categories:
• Short Film
• Student Film
• Commissioned Film
The event also saw the announcement of a brand new category of awards to be handed out at the festival. Whilst the festival awards for Short Film, Student Film and Commissioned Film will be awarded to the director, the new Industry Excellence Awards will focus attention on the individuals working in the industry and celebrate their work on a commissioned project.
The first year will reward individuals who have worked on a commissioned film (not a personal project or student film) in the following categories:
• Character Animation
Submissions close on the 29 July. To nominate yourself or a colleague for any of the above awards please visit the website where you can enter for free.
Celebrating 40 years in the business, Aardman Animations co-founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton will be coming to Manchester Animation Festival in November.
Though probably best known for Morph, Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, Aardman’s back catalogue has spanned adverts, short films, feature film and games all packed with an indescribable charm captivating audiences worldwide for 40 years.
Further details on the lineup of guests, masterclasses, previews, panels, workshops and more will be released later in the year, as well as information on tickets and delegate passes.
