‘Hello Northwest’, the soft landing service offering free office space for new investors into Manchester and the Northwest, continues to be popular with overseas companies. This week the sixteenth success was notched-up for the scheme as India based Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Company – Mangalam Information Technologies, has set up its UK office in Manchester and the company plan to employ around 30 people over the next three years.
Part of the $500 million Electrotherm group, Mangalam has been serving clients in the US for close to a decade in the Legal, Healthcare and Finance & Accounting domain. In the UK, it plans to provide services in sectors which are experiencing challenges because of the current economic environment.
Some of the services they would be providing include: Legal process outsourcing solutions for law firms and corporate counsels; book keeping & other accounting services to chartered accounting firms; and back office support services to local government bodies, Universities and educational institutions.
While operational savings of upto 70% are easily possible, Mangalam also looks at optimizing the business processes by using tools based on Six-Sigma and Lean principles, this results in getting more output for significantly less cost.
Srinath Mitragotri, Executive Vice President of Mangalam, said: “We decided to set up our base in Manchester because we find the overall business environment very amenable to a new business like ours. The people here have shown great warmth and a genuine desire to help, which was one of the key reason to come to the Northwest. Outside of UK, the general impression is that London is the only place for business in the UK, which is not true. The thriving business community and the overall ecosystem in Manchester are very conducive for business success.”
Mark Hughes, Acting Chief Executive of the NWDA, said: “Our ‘Hello’ scheme continues to attract investors to the region and we are delighted with its early success. The latest company to take up the ‘Hello’ offer will allow businesses to operate at a much lower operational cost. In the current fragile market this could be enough to help some business survive and return to strong growth in the years ahead.“
Angie Robinson, Chief Executive of MIDAS, commented: “MIDAS is delighted that Manchester’s low risk environment, created by the combination of the Hello Northwest scheme and MIDAS and NWDA support services, has led to Mangalam choosing the city region for its UK HQ. Manchester’s strengths in financial and professional services and healthcare were undoubtedly a prime factor in the firm’s decision, striking a key balance between market opportunities and the operational efficiencies available as a result of Manchester’s strong track record in business process outsourcing.”
The ‘Hello Northwest’, scheme, was developed in partnership between the NWDA and the investment agencies for Manchester and the Liverpool City Region, MIDAS and The Mersey Partnership, and leading serviced office providers – Avanta, Bruntwood, Orega, Manchester Science Parks, Liverpool Science Park and Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus.
