Three leading Greater Manchester councillors have joined the board of MIDAS, Manchester’s Investment and Development Agency.
Councillors Guy Harkin (Bolton), Dave Sweeton (Tameside) and Dave Goddard (Stockport) have all been appointed to the MIDAS board for 2010/11 following recent elections.
The three new appointees join a predominantly private sector-led MIDAS board.
Led by Chairman Michael Oglesby of Bruntwood, the board includes; Keith Alderson, Co-operative Bank; Andrew Cliffe, Manchester Airports Group Plc; Malcolm Edge, Chairman of Northern Business Area, KPMG; Mike Blackburn, BT; John Clarke, Tesco; Professor Rod Coombs, University of Manchester; Paul Horrocks, Essential Communications and former Manchester Evening News Editor; Gerry Yeung, Yang Sing Group of Restaurants and other councillors Sue Murphy (Manchester) and Michael Cornes (Trafford).
Michael Oglesby commented: “I’d like to welcome the new members of the MIDAS board. In these challenging times the work of our board in providing the very best private and public sector leadership for attracting inward and foreign investment projects to the Manchester city region and its ten boroughs has never been more important.
“I hope that the councillors will play an important and active role in continuing the good work of MIDAS as we seek to build on last year’s record results.”
