Qiagen – a leading international provider of life sciences technologies – has won the MIDAS-sponsored inward investment award, presented at last night’s (7th December) Insider International Trade Awards 2011.
The inaugural ceremony took place to highlight the success of companies involved with overseas business and those international businesses investing in the North West. Qiagen, whose headquarters are based in Dusseldorf, Germany, were selected based on their record for innovation and for their commitment to Manchester. The company is based at Manchester Science Park and, following its acquisition of DxS in 2009, has expanded local operations to establish a centre of excellence for companion diagnostics. This move has created 80 jobs for the company, which now employs 140 people in the city.
Tim Newns, chief executive of MIDAS, said: “I’m delighted to present this award to Qiagen. Their organisation has demonstrated a passionate commitment to the region, bringing an 80-person bio-medical project to Manchester within the last 18-months. “Qiagen is fantastic example of the type of business that we seek to engage with in Manchester and I wish them every success with their ongoing developments across the region and the wider North West.”
The Insider International Trade Awards took place at the Lowry Hotel, bringing together 300 business leaders to celebrate the North West’s successes in export and attracting overseas investment.
