The Landing opens its doors to Origin and supports student enterprise hub

The Landing has joined forces with The University of Salford’s incubation scheme for start-ups, Origin, to allow students and graduates to use its facilities at MediaCityUK.

Currently based at Spark Studio in Salford, the scheme has extended to The Landing to give participants access to its digital and creative communities, as well as one of the most sought-after business locations in MediaCityUK.

Successful applicants participating in the 12 month scheme will have the ability to be based at The Landing or Spark Studio at a subsidised rate, including the first three months free.*

Origin at The Landing is set to become a centre of excellence for University of Salford students and graduates looking to manage start-up enterprises within the digital and creative sectors, focusing primarily on technological innovation.

Current participants of the scheme include textile design company, House of Hoyle, Parisian online marketplace for one-off items, Paris, je t’aime, and independent game developers, Lamplight Studios.

Martin Cosens, programmer and project lead at Lamplight Studios, said: “Our move to Origin at The Landing offers an exciting platform for growth that enables us to benefit from outstanding facilities and be part of a network of innovators.

“Through the university’s concerted efforts to connect students directly with their relevant industries, we find our company in a place surrounded by experienced digital media companies, providing expertise and opportunity to both us and any other individuals with access to the space.”

The Landing, as a technology and innovation hub based in heart of MediaCityUK, is well-positioned to support SMEs operating in the digital and creative sectors, giving them the opportunity to work alongside global media organisations and broadcasters such as the BBC and ITV.

Incubator schemes like Origin are integral to the future of the UK’s business economy. According to UKBI, businesses in incubator schemes have an average success rate of 98% and a further 87% are surviving after five years.

Ann Darby, Director of Strategic Partnerships at The Landing, said: “Supporting digital creative SMEs and ensuring that they grow, thrive and excel in their industry is integral to what we do at The Landing.

“Collaborating with the University of Salford to support their incubator scheme helps to fulfil that mission and cultivate the future industry leaders.”
