Trafford Council has put together a three year plan, with the help of organisations and businesses working in Trafford's town centres, to give them a boost and ensure they continue to attract shoppers, visitors and investment.
The Town Centres Plan is a priority for the Trafford Economic Alliance, whose members include key business sector and town centre partnership representatives. This plan represents a shared approach to the challenges facing industry and business in the current climate and the way forward for the future.
Chris Fletcher, Chair of Trafford Economic Alliance and Deputy Chief Executive and Policy Director at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce said: "Trafford’s town centres are a crucial component of Trafford’s economic prosperity. This Town Centres Plan helps co-ordinate the work of a number of organisations and business partners in the town centres, contributing to the shaping of their policies and helping to inform investment decisions."
The plan addresses the key challenges and issues facing town centres today and focuses on the main factors vital to town centre success such as access, investment, environment, marketing, security and business support as well as links to national and regional policies. Each town has its own profile and a separate document includes detailed delivery plans relating to the town centre themes and key actions.
Local people and businesses are being invited to comment on the Town Centres Plan by completing a questionnaire on the main factors and priorities set out. The online consultation will take place from 8 December 2008 – 12 January 2009. Staff from Trafford’s Economic Development Team will also be in the town centres, to explain the plan to people and get their feedback. Town Centre stalls will be on the following dates between 1pm and 4pm:
* Altrincham – The Graftons – (entrance next to Greggs, George Street) –
Tuesday 16 December
* Sale – Near Select, Market Walk, The Square Shopping Centre –

* Stretford – Near MacDonalds, Stretford Mall – Monday 15 December
* Urmston – Near Boots, Flixton Road, Urmston – Friday 19 December

Executive councillor Mike Cornes said: "Our town centres provide the focus for shopping, leisure and community facilities and are vital hubs for employment. It is important they continue to remain sustainable centres of economic activity, serving the needs of local people and businesses. We want to know what the priorities are for people and businesses in Trafford and we welcome their views during this consultation period."
The Plan will help shape the development of key services and facilities in the town centres and will continue to evolve and be updated.
