Trimega’s £1 million expansion plans at Hexagon Tower

Trimega Laboratories, a leading provider of drug and alcohol testing services, is set to grow its presence in Manchester even further with a significant expansion of its laboratory facilities at Hexagon Tower, Blackley; a north Manchester based BEST Network Science Park.

The expansion represents an investment of more than £1 million for Trimega – one of the fastest growing substance misuse testing companies in the United Kingdom- and follows an increase in the demand for the testing of harmful substances and substance abuse.

Trimega utilises the latest technology, providing accurate and reliable services for drug and alcohol testing and the extension of the laboratory will enable Trimega to provide additional new services to its already well established and market leading hair testing services, including oral fluid, urine and DNA testing. The expansion at Trimega’s Hexagon Tower facilities will also include a new analytical suite, a reception area and additional office spaces.

Trimega’s Hexagon Tower laboratory has provided services to clients from family law firms, general practitioners, local authorities, corporate clients and consumers. In addition, Trimega also has a close working relationship with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Sarah Danford, Marketing Manager at Trimega Laboratories, said: “The investment in our new laboratory demonstrates our commitment to this market and we are delighted to be opening these new facilities.”

Sarah continues: “This expansion represents an exciting time for Trimega, as we seek to continually ensure that we are able to provide the best results for our clients, and we are very happy that our facilities at Hexagon Tower are able to expand fluidly with our operations.”

Hexagon Toweris a specialist biotech and chemical research facility in Manchester. A former ICI research, development and production centre, the facility has fostered innovative companies such as Trimega since the Victorian period. With connections to prominent academic and scientific research hubs throughout the North West, the facility recently became part of the BEST Network –the largest network of science parks in the UK.

Trimega’s expansion showcases the science park’s ability to allow tenants to grow organically; space can be extended flexibly whilst the company is assured that it does not have to grow too quickly or forced to move spaces. The science park also features technical engineering and laboratory support for any specialist equipment that is required.

Stewart Needham, site facilities manager at Hexagon Tower, said: “Trimega’s expansion is a fantastic accomplishment, and shows that the North West is a leading location for science firms to progressively innovate from a start up company and grow all the way to a ‘game changer’ in their field.

“We at Hexagon Tower are proud that Trimega have chosen to expand their leading drug and alcohol testing laboratory with us, and we look forward to many more specialist science companies beginning and growing with us.”

Stewart adds: “With Hexagon Tower’s recent adoption into BEST Network, we can see that there is a real appetite for scientific industries to have a place where they can evolve and learn good practises from one another. It is our hopes that through BEST Network, we can attract further investment that can help many more companies like Trimega expand and seek success.”

The Business Environments for Science and Technology (BEST) Network is the largest nation-wide portfolio of science parks in the UK. Assembled and managed by LaSalle Investment Management, BEST Network includes both well-established science and technology parks, as well as those undergoing investment to attract high technology activities.

The network aims to build its national and worldwide reputation, ensuring recognition from international science-based companies and academic institutions.
