Manchester – A Great Place to Work and Live
Manchester is a world-class city which offers people a great place to live and work. A vibrant and cosmopolitan city, it has been listed as the UK’s most liveable city (The Economist Intelligence Unit 2015). Opportunities for career minded professionals is only set to increase as Manchester continues to win investment from UK and overseas companies attracted by its highly-skilled talent pool, connectivity and low-cost base. Over the last decade, the region’s financial and professional services (FPS) sector has grown by 50%, complemented by the development of Spinningfields – our new financial district. Manchester is now the largest FPS sector outside of London (CityUK 2014) and since 2009 has been one of the only UK cities to have maintained its levels of employment.
It currently employs 250,000 professionals working across sectors such as banking, accountancy, insurance and legal service. This number is projected to increase to 300,000 by 2020 due to the number of new companies setting up in the region and existing investors expanding their presence.
MIDAS – Manchester’s inward investment agency – is responsible for attracting new companies to the city and helping existing investors to expand. We are currently working in partnership with some of the region’s major banks and universities to promote the growing opportunities in the city. The aim is to attract professionals to the region who are not only looking for great job opportunities but also wishing to take advantage of the lifestyle benefits that Manchester provides such as affordable living and access to a thriving cultural, sporting and leisure offering. Whether you are interested in music, performing arts, the great outdoors, shopping or tourism and heritage, the city can cater for even the most discerning visitor. You get much more for your money in Manchester, which is reflected across the board from housing costs to leisure and entertainment.
