Citylabs is one of the UK’s most vibrant, thriving communities of diagnostics, medtech, digital health, precision medicine and genomics businesses driving the future of healthcare. Uniquely located within the heart of the UK’s largest NHS Trust - Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, the campus is immediately surrounded by five of the country’s leading hospitals, and within the largest clinical academic campus in Europe - the Oxford Road Corridor innovation district.
Citylabs sits at the heart of the city’s health and life science cluster and is surrounded by world-class research centres including the Stoller Biomarker Discovery Centre, the Biomedical Research Centre, Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine, the Farr Institute, the University of Manchester Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, and the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility. The University of Manchester’s Health Technology Research Hub - the Pankhurst Institute is also set to join the Citylabs community at Citylabs 4.0. Citylabs is part of the Oxford Road Corridor Enterprise Zone and the Department for International Trade (DIT) High Potential Opportunity for Diagnostics and Early Intervention for Healthy Ageing.
A joint venture between Bruntwood SciTech and MFT, by choosing the Citylabs campus you can gain access to a unique, accelerated pathway for your business’ product or service to be trialled and adopted into the health system at pace and scale, with opportunities available to collaborate and gain direct access to MFT clinicians, resources and patients, and the potential reach of Greater Manchester’s +3m population. Current businesses located at Citylabs are already connected into MFT through joint clinical trials, sample supply, diagnostic collaborations, medtech adoption and research.
The campus includes Citylabs 1.0 and 2.0, where a pioneering cluster of over 20 businesses working in the life science sector are based, including globally-leading diagnostics company QIAGEN and their Global Centre of Excellence for Precision Medicine, Yourgene Health, Takagi, and Mac Clinical Research. Following the success of the first two phases of the campus, a £70m expansion is underway with Citylabs 3.0 & 4.0 having received planning permission. Citylabs 4.0 is the next building to become available and reservations for taking space are available now. Citylabs 4.0 is 125,000 sq ft and seven floors of world-class office and lab space, capable of Biosafety Levels 1 and 2 (BSL-1 and BSL-2) lab fit out, and the upper floors can be enhanced to accommodate screeding if required.
