Salford-based tech innovation hub, The Landing, and Indian cinema landmark, Famous Studios, launched India’s first ever all-inclusive international media incubator programme today.

Driven by the mutual ambition to support emerging talent, new content forms and new IP creation, the two organisations have created a unique value proposition for a creative, digital, media and entertainment (CDME) incubator/accelerator; which will be run out of both Famous Studios in India and The Landing at MediaCityUK, Salford.

The announcement was made at an event hosted by the Manchester India Partnership during the Mayor of Greater Manchester’s inaugural six-day visit to India.

Speaking on the occasion, Jon Corner, CEO of The Landing, said: “Visual content in all its forms is set to reach unprecedented levels of distribution and demand. Network capabilities such as 5G will further unlock the potential and creative scope for content innovation and consumption. Such an emerging landscape will require new approaches to talent and IP development. Our partnership incubator with Famous Studios signals not only a groundbreaking international collaboration but also the fundamental importance of nurturing creative talent. It’s a passion we share with Famous Studios and I’m personally delighted we have taken this first step together.”

Anant Roongta, Director at Famous Studios, added: “Famous has always been a cultural hub providing opportunities to all the creative minds in the industry. In the past decade, we have witnessed a paradigm shift in the media and tech industries. A meticulous understanding of these factors alike has laid the foundation for this exciting partnership with The Landing, MediaCityUK. The bootcamp incubator and accelerator programme will be a first of its kind in India, offering mentorship to the next generation of media enthusiasts and content creators by offering a sweep of services, facilities, latest technologies, and awe-inspiring infrastructure, to help them grow, create, advance and succeed."

At its core, the partnership intents to nurture new creative and technical CDME talent in content development and technology services – encompassing broadcast and digital journalism, advertising, OTT/web series, feature films, gaming, VFX, audio production, and new digital media content.

The intention of the partnership is to enable Famous Studios to develop an operational incubator for IP development, talent, new technology and service companies for the purposes of content creation in the audio-visual media industry, which would be the first of its kind in Mumbai. The incubator model will be based on using The Landing’s existing ‘Boot-Camp and Network Benefits’ model. The partnership also intends to bridge the talent gap between both the countries and gives access to the value chain at both ends.

Set up in 1946, Famous Studios has been a landmark in the world of Indian cinema and television since pre-independence India. Staying ahead of the curve, Famous Studios has always strived to bring innovation and technology in the media business. The studio offers a single window solution to all content creators with a combination of state-of-the-art technology and leading creative artists.

In 2018, Famous collaborated with Centroid UK, a leading Motion Capture studio to service the growing needs of the Indian media and entertainment industry. In June 2019, Famous launched The Famous Working Company: a co-working space designed to foster the creative mind.

The Landing is a major UK tech hub in the heart of MediaCityUK, Salford. The Landing’s eco-system offers tech and digital start-ups and SMEs an environment where they can benefit from leading services and facilities to enable them to grow. From co-working and office space to specialist labs (UX, 5G Innovation, VRAR, MakerLabs) and conference facilities, it offers everything under one roof for high growth tech start-ups, along with in-built support through its partner network, business workshops and in-house accelerator and incubator programmes.
