Categories: Latest News

One of the UK’s major retail and commercial banks, NatWest, opened its doors to the public last month for a three-day hackathon at its offices in the heart of Manchester’s financial district – Spinningfields.

Participants were challenged to deliver innovative, effortless and inclusive digital solutions to enhance payment experiences for customers. Prizes were awarded to the ‘overall winner’ – the team whose idea best met the overall brief, ‘most socially inclusive’ – for the team whose idea best supported overcoming potential barriers of moving to digital, and ‘most innovative’ – for the team with the most pioneering idea.

Solutions were judged against how disruptive, socially inclusive, commercially viable, effortless, and strategically aligned they were, with the winning ideas going through a four-week innovation accelerator after being successfully assessed.

The event offered guests the opportunity to gain experience working in a fast-paced team environment, giving them access to industry expertise as well as the opportunity to pitch to NatWest. Members of the bank’s team and representatives from its technology partners were in attendance to mentor and support guests over the weekend.
