Manchester identified by major European company, Distrelec, for new ‘Enterprise Hub’

Categories: Business Services

Distrelec – part of the long established, Swiss founded Dätwyler group – has announced that the company is to open a new European office and centre of expertise in Manchester City Centre.  This is the first UK operation for the Distrelec business.

The leading high-service distribution company has decided to centralise certain important European functions in Manchester consolidating them from Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, creating over 100 new jobs in the city.  With the input of Manchester’s Inward Investment Agency, MIDAS, Manchester was selected due to the best availability of talent and infrastructure, beating off competition from Berlin and seven other major European cities.

The company has agreed a 10 year lease and is set to occupy the entire seventh floor of 2 St Peter’s Square, the brand new Grade A office building in the heart of the city centre that has been developed by Mosley Street Ventures Ltd and funded by Deutsche Asset Management.

Based at 2 St Peter’s Square and known as the ‘Enterprise Hub’ the office will house all product, supplier, inventory management, purchasing, e-commerce and marketing functions. As an integral part to Distrelec’s ongoing transition to a digital based business, the new location opens up over 100 employment opportunities for qualified staff in an established business, with a new UK offering. The recruitment drive for the roles, covering a wide salary spectrum, is being handled by Hays, Manchester. In a collaborative workspace, employees will be part of a global organisation with a start-up feel, further enforcing Manchester’s title as the technology capital of the North.

Dätwyler is a focussed industrial supplier, originally founded in Switzerland and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange since 1986. With a total of some 50 operating companies, sales in over 100 countries and more than 7,000 employees, the Dätwyler Group generates annual revenue of more than £938 million.

Distrelec, one of Europe’s leading high-service distributor of maintenance, automation, electronics, measurement technology and IT components and accessories offers c150,000 different product lines from around 700 suppliers. By providing high availability and short delivery times for the time critical need of professionals from a broad range of industries, Distrelec creates added value for its customers and its suppliers.

James Sykes, Director, Hays North West, said: “We’re pleased to be partnering with Distrelec to source over 100 talented individuals to work on an exciting opportunity, as the company creates an Enterprise Hub in the heart of the city. The roles available are a direct link to Manchester’s digitally skilled workforce, with opportunities in collaborating with suppliers, online marketing and sales. The move from Distrelec is also particularly pertinent as Manchester’s technology sector is set to be a key focus for newly elected Mayor, Andy Burnham.”

James Petit, Head of Real Estate, UK & Ireland, Deutsche Asset Management, said: “We are pleased Distrelec has selected Manchester and 2 St Peter’s Square in which to base its European centre for technical expertise. We believe this underlines the increasing prominence of Manchester as a European business city and the exceptional quality 2 St Peter’s Square affords office occupiers seeking best in class accommodation.”

Nick Nelson of Manchester based Sixteen Real Estate is advising Distrelec on the company’s UK relocation to 2 St Peter’s Square and ADT are undertaking the design and fit out works.
