Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, welcomed senior leaders from four of India’s most innovative tech companies to Manchester earlier this month (Wednesday 17th April), encouraging them to set up business operations in the city.
The visit was organised by MIDAS – Greater Manchester’s inward investment agency – to bring the four winners of Deloitte India’s Technology Fast 50 (DF50) competition, which recognises the country’s fastest growing and most dynamic tech firms, to the city region.
MIDAS sponsored the 2018 competition for the third year running, offering each of the winners a Manchester ‘establishment package’. The two-day visit formed part of the prize package, which also included complimentary flights to Manchester, a three-night stay at the Principal hotel and an expert introduction to the city region’s technology sector.
At the meeting today, the Mayor of Greater Manchester awarded each of the winners with their remaining prizes, designed to assist them in establishing business operations in the city region. The tiered prize packages offer free or discounted services from companies including MIDAS, The Landing, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and Metrolink, amongst others.
Speaking at the event, Andy Burnham said:
“It’s very clear to me why these companies were selected as winners – as they are all doing very exciting and important work that is a good fit for Greater Manchester. We are the country’s fastest growing city region and we have aspirations to be the UK’s leading digital city region in all of the fields these companies operate within – education, smart cities and cyber security. We’re seeking to build on the success we’ve already seen from the Manchester India Partnership over coming years, and I will be visiting India for the first time later this year to do that.”
Tim Newns, CEO of MIDAS, said:
“Greater Manchester’s digital and technology cluster is one of the most significant in Europe, making it the ideal business location for fast-growth Indian companies, and the DF50 competition provides us with a fantastic opportunity to showcase the region’s world-class tech offer in India – as well as encourage some of the country’s most innovative and exciting companies to set-up operations within the city region.
Hosting this visit not only gives us a chance to formally congratulate the winners but enables us to properly familiarise them with Greater Manchester’s technology ecosystem and the array of business opportunities available here. One of our strongest Indian success stories is 42Gears, which established operations at MediaCityUK after coming through the DF50 programme, and we look forward to celebrating more successes with the most recent tranche of winners."
Indian technology SMEs Arcon Technologies, Serosoft Solutions and Videonetics Technology made up the delegation. Due to the high quality of all companies, all three were awarded ‘gold’ tier establishment packages, which includes:
Single point access to a range of business support from MIDAS
Free membership at The Landing co-working and incubator space
Free legal advice from Squire Patton Boggs
Talent and recruitment support from Chroma Recruitment and Marked Advantage
Free membership with the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce
Discounted Metrolink travel for all employees one month
