Safe Steps, a company specialising in preventative healthcare for older adults using smart technologies, has expanded their operations to Greater Manchester following the city region’s growing appetite and strengths in digital health platforms to improve patient health and social care.
Originally from Liverpool, the SME anticipates accelerated growth following their expansion to the UK’s top digital tech city with 50 new jobs projected in the first few years.
The expansion follows the successful roll out of a number of digital health projects within Greater Manchester’s healthcare eco-system and as a result of close collaboration with Health Innovation Manchester, the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership and other local NHS institutions.
The projects include Safe Steps Falls Prevention Carer App, a digital falls risk assessment tool that provides a standardised and practical approach for falls management across various care settings, and more recently the Safe Steps Covid Tracker - the world’s first Covid management app for care homes.
Data collected from Safe Steps’ digital health applications feeds directly into the Greater Manchester Care Record powered by Graphnet’s CareCentric shared record solution providing improved visibility and understanding of Greater Manchester’s most vulnerable citizens for medical practitioners.
MIDAS with partners has supported Safe Steps with establishing their new base in Greater Manchester.
Lee Omar, Founder and CEO of Safe Steps said:
Tim Newns, Chief Executive, MIDAS – Greater Manchester’s Inward Investment Agency said:“ Our partnership with Health Innovation Manchester and collaboration with NHS in Greater Manchester has been the main driver for our expansion to set up a base in Manchester. The ecosystem around digital health and Age-Tech is unique in this city region and is often called the 'Silicon Valley for Age-Tech'. It is great to be a part of the burgeoning ecosystem here.”
“ Safe Steps has already achieved enormous success through the roll out of their digital health platforms in Greater Manchester, so it is really exciting to think about what their future holds now they are fully embedded within the city region’s healthcare and digital eco-systems. The way Safe Steps has collaborated with Greater Manchester’s core healthcare partners is exemplary for the improvement of patient health - using remote technologies, in particular for the health of older adults, for healthy ageing. We wish them every success. ”
