A Greater Manchester lighting company has engineered bespoke and compliant lighting solutions for NHS Nightingale hospitals across the UK.
Healthcare lighting specialist Whitecroft Lighting, based in Tameside, was briefed to develop bespoke bed light solutions similar to those used in the original NHS Nightingale hospital in London but with enhanced infection control and patient comfort.
In response, Whitecroft Lighting modified existing products to develop three alternative solutions that could be fitted to the walls behind beds – as there are no ceilings directly above – that provide an adequate level of light and control for both patients and staff.
The process from design through to production took only two days and the products were delivered and installed within five days from the brief being received.
The solution has already been fitted in NHS Nightingale North West at Manchester Central. Around 7,500 light products will be used across a total of 10 sites across the UK, including in temporary hospitals in Cardiff, Glasgow and Harrogate.
Permanent lighting solutions are also being implemented in the Royal London and Christie Hospitals to make ‘mothballed’ beds/areas available.
After temporarily suspending product production to implement social distancing measures, the company is delighted to be supporting the nation’s response to COVID-19.
