Amazon creates 600 Silicon Valley jobs in Manchester

Online retailer Amazon has confirmed it will open a major new office in Manchester next year, creating 600 new technology and research jobs.

The Manchester team will play a leading role in global innovation for Amazon, focusing primarily on research and development, including software development and machine learning, as well as being a growth centre for AWS, it’s cloud computing business.

Doug Gurr, Amazon UK Country Manager, said:

“Manchester was at the heart of the industrial revolution and has a fantastic history of innovation. Our new office will be home to over 600 staff, many of whom will be focused on developing exciting new products and services used by Amazon customers around the world. The city offers an incredibly talented workforce and a budding tech scene with some of the most exciting, fast-growing tech companies in the UK situated here.”

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, said:

“Amazon opening their new office in Manchester is another vote of confidence in our city-region as a global digital leader. We are the UK’s top digital city-region and we are open for business.
