The Manchester India Partnership (MIP) has secured one of four shortlist positions for Trade and Promotion Agency of the Year at the prestigious UK-India Awards.
The awards celebrate partnership between the UK and India, recognising the individuals and organisations leveraging their influence to strengthen bilateral business and cultural relationships.
Trade and Invest Wales, techUK and the City of London Corporation have been shortlisted alongside MIP in the category.
MIP, a groundbreaking public-private partnership that aims to capitalise on global trade, tourism and academic opportunities between Manchester and India, was named Trade and Investment Promotion Agency of the Year at the 2018 awards.
Speaking at the time, Andrew Cowan, Chair of the MIP and CEO of Manchester Airport, said:
“This is a proud moment for the region and we look forward to the positive and sustained impact MIP will have on supporting the local economy, on tourism and how relationships between the business community and academia will be enhanced in years to come.”
Since then, the MIP has achieved immense success – most notably commissioning The Northern Powerhouse and India: Unlocking the Opportunity report; demonstrating the collaborative opportunities for £400m economic development between India and the North of England.
The MIP has also delivered numerous business events across both regions, engaging with hundreds of businesses to identify bilateral opportunities and secure investment; in turn, attracting significant interest from Whitehall and hosting high-profile ministerial visitors.
The UK-India Awards ceremony will be held in London on 28 June, bringing together more than 300 global leaders, changemakers and influential figures from the business and public spheres in both locations.
