On Friday 15th February, Manchester China Forum was presented with the Recognition Award at the Greater China Business Awards, organised by the Department for International Trade North West.
The accolade was one of four presented at the awards dinner, which is now in its 14th year. Hosted at the Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays, the dinner was sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways, one of two airlines operating direct flights to Greater China from Manchester Airport.
The Greater China Business Awards honour significant contributions to developing business links with Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, in addition to celebrating the Chinese Spring Festival.
The annual awards ceremony was attended by leading businesses and education institutions from across Greater Manchester as well as Director of International Trade for UK Regions Marian Sudbury, and HM Trade Commissioner for China Richard Burn.
Upon receiving the award, Executive Director of the Manchester China Forum Rhys Whalley welcomed the Recognition Award as a reflection of the city’s commitment to developing a collective and joined up approach to building long-term relationships with China.
Other winners at this year’s event included Zilico Ltd, who were nominated for the Rising Star Award following their successful attendance at September’s World Economic Forum in Tianjin – joining a delegation led by the Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, the Manchester China Forum and the Department for International Trade.
The Greater China Business Awards are run in conjunction with the Exporting is GREAT campaign, a UK Government initiative to inspire and support firms across the country to export.
