Global investment management firm, Vanguard, is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Vanguard Group Inc., a leading provider of high-value investment services, whose mission is to help clients achieve their goals by being one of the world’s highest value providers of investment products and services. 

Vanguard announced its decision to open an office in Manchester in 2023 following a two-year project working with MIDAS. This marks the firm's inaugural office outside of London in the UK and will supplement the investment management company’s 900 staff across its European offices. 

Greater Manchester Growth Story  

The team at Vanguard shared that their decision to move to Manchester was driven by the city's exceptional talent pool, providing the company with the opportunity to enhance its operational capacity for the European business in a dynamic and rapidly growing market. 

The new site will be made up of multiple divisions and will consist of a mix of customer support, finance and technology roles with the overall number to be determined shortly but is likely to exceed 200 within the first 3 years. 

The business alignment to the city-region's development strategy is also a key factor in the development of the branch. The move will see Vanguard work closely with Greater Manchester Combined Authority to strategically unlock economic potential and contribute to the North’s ambitions of levelling-up. 

Working with MIDAS 

The MIDAS team worked with Vanguard’s project team to provide information and research on Greater Manchester including data and insights into the skills and recruitment of our Technology and Cybersecurity cluster to make the case for the expansion to be tech focused as opposed to customer services. The team also worked extensively on familiarisation and business network connections, PR and Relocation Support and acted as a conduit between local civic leaders Vanguard’s senior leadership team.
