Manchester Waters Masterplan Moves Forward
Peel Waters’ Pomona Island masterplan marks a major milestone in transforming the site into a vibrant new waterfront neighbourhood. The plans submitted to Trafford Council will regenerate 25 acres of brownfield land, delivering around 2,600 high-quality homes across affordable, build-to-rent and open-market tenures, alongside student, care and elderly living. The scheme also includes a hotel, workspaces, retail and leisure uses, supported by a landscape-led design with a 5-acre waterside park, green spaces, and new walking and cycling connections.

How Bury and 'Bobbies' Are Connected
The slang term for a policeman, ‘Bobby’ has a Greater Manchester connection. Bury was the birthplace of Sir Robert Peel, former British Prime Minister and founder of the Metropolitan Police. Policemen were nicknamed Bobbies in Sir Robert’s honour when the force was founded in 1829 and it’s fair to say the term has stuck some 200 years later.
