Greentec Auto US has officially opened its new UK flagship facility in Trafford Park, Manchester, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion into the UK and European hybrid & electric vehicle market.

The new facility was unveiled during a formal opening event attended by industry partners, local stakeholders, and representatives from regional economic development bodies, underscoring the strategic importance of the investment to Greater Manchester’s growing advanced manufacturing and clean-technology sector.

Greentec Auto is a family-owned global leader in hybrid and electric vehicle battery remanufacturing, repair, and end-of-life solutions, with established operations across North America & Canada. The new Manchester site represents the company’s first UK facility and a key step in building a fully localised battery lifecycle solution for the UK market.

The Trafford Park operation will support battery testing, diagnostics, remanufacturing, and logistics, providing a sustainable alternative to full battery replacement while reducing waste and carbon intensity associated with new battery production. The facility has been developed to serve both consumer and commercial markets, including independent repair networks, fleets, and automotive partners.

Ben Townsend, General Manager of Greentec Auto UK, said: “This opening represents far more than a new building. It’s Greentec’s long-term commitment to the UK market, to skilled green jobs, and to building a circular economy for Hybrid & EV batteries. Trafford Park’s industrial heritage makes it the ideal location for us to establish our UK base, and this facility gives us the platform to scale responsibly as EV adoption continues to accelerate.”

Trafford Council leader, Cllr Tom Ross, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Green Tec Auto’s new facility as part of the regeneration and transformation of Trafford.  Extending the life of electric and hybrid vehicle batteries, reducing waste, and helping accelerate the shift to cleaner transport supports Greater Manchester’s ambition to reach carbon neutrality by 2038. This development aligns with Trafford’s growing reputation for clean growth and circular economy businesses, creating jobs and opportunities, including for young people, in the process. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this facility will bring in the years ahead.”

Joe Manning, Managing Director at MIDAS, Manchester’s Inward Investment Agency, said: “Greentec Auto’s decision to open its first UK facility in Trafford Park highlights Greater Manchester’s appeal for companies in battery technology and sustainable manufacturing. The company chose Trafford Park for its infrastructure and skilled manufacturing workforce, bringing specialist battery remanufacturing and recycling expertise to the city region. The investment will create skilled green jobs in a growing sector, and we’re pleased to see another company investing in Trafford’s growing low-carbon and clean energy cluster.”

The Manchester site has been configured to support future growth, with capacity for expansion as demand increases. It also forms part of Greentec Auto’s wider strategy to localise battery remanufacturing and recycling capability, reducing reliance on overseas supply chains while supporting UK sustainability and net-zero objectives.

The investment brings advanced battery expertise into the region and aligns with Greater Manchester’s ambitions to attract clean-technology manufacturers and innovators while also supporting green careers. Trafford Park, the world’s first planned industrial estate, continues to evolve as a hub for modern advanced manufacturing and low-carbon industry.

The opening of the Manchester facility positions Greentec Auto as a growing contributor to the UK’s Hybrid & EV infrastructure, supporting longer vehicle lifecycles, lower total cost of ownership for motorists, and meaningful reductions in environmental impact.

With global experience, proprietary processes, and a focus on safety, quality, and sustainability, Greentec Auto’s Manchester operation marks the beginning of a long-term presence in the UK as the transition to electric mobility gathers pace.
