Manchester has been named one of ‘Europe’s best cities for 2025’, according to a new report. Described as “England’s worker bee city”, Manchester was praised for a “creative and economic rebirth” that has thrust it into the spotlight recently.
The city ranked 36 in the list of 100 destinations to “visit, live, work and invest in 2025”, according to global consulting firm Resonance.
It looked at a combination of core statistics and user generated data from online resources such as Google, Tripadvisor and Instagram to compile its third annual Europe’s best cities report.
The study also analysed public perception, combined with “a wide range of factors that have demonstrated moderate to strong correlations with attracting prime age population (age 25 – 44), visitor expenditure, and/or business formation.”
The report highlights “European urban regions that are leading their countries, the continent and the planet in economic growth.”
Manchester’s university and airport are mentioned in the city’s ‘highlighted rankings’ while the opening of the Co-op Live Arena receives a mention, with the city "continuing to shape global music”.
The report states: “You’ll be hearing a lot more about Manchester this decade as the historic engine of English industry shifts into high gear across both culture and development.”
Investment opportunities such as the Western Gateway at Old Trafford are also highlighted. The report added that: “...a mature devolved governance model and transformative transit investments—like bringing commuter rail into the Bee Network—and the city’s Top 10-ranked airport and 15th-most Instagram Hashtags start making sense.”
