In a historic move, The BRIT Awards will take place in Manchester for the first time ever, breaking a 48-year tradition of London-based events. The UK’s most prominent music awards ceremony will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Co-Op Live venue in 2026 and 2027, signalling a significant cultural and economic boost for the region.

The 2026 ceremony is set for February 28 and will be broadcast live on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player. This milestone marks the first of a three-year partnership with Sony Music UK, which has been instrumental in the awards’ relocation. Further announcements about the 2026 programming are expected in the coming months.

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, welcomed the move as a “massive coup” for the city. He said:
“For The BRIT Awards to move out of London is a massive coup for Greater Manchester. After 48 years, it is great that this prestigious global event is about to arrive in the UK capital of music and culture.”

This relocation is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, drawing visitors and attention to the city’s thriving hospitality, retail, and cultural sectors. Local businesses and venues stand to benefit from increased footfall and international exposure.

Sony Music UK & Ireland CEO Jason Iley highlighted the significance of Manchester’s rich musical legacy:
“Moving to Manchester, the home of some of the most iconic and defining artists of our lifetime, will invigorate the show and build on the BRITs legacy of celebrating and reinvesting in world-class music.”

The move comes as Manchester continues to cement its status as a major player in the UK’s cultural and entertainment industries. It follows other high-profile events, including the opening of Co-Op Live and the anticipated return of Oasis. The relocation of The BRIT Awards underscores Manchester’s standing as a hub for both historic and emerging music scenes.
