Finding the right educational establishment for your child is a vitally important decision when moving to a new area, whether that be early years, prep, middle or secondary education.
Whether you’re looking for a nursery, primary or secondary school, Manchester has some excellent schools including both state-run and independent, same sex or mixed-sex, as well as faith schools.
Manchester is well served by educational establishments that are well represented within national rankings, with most schools generally performing to a very high standard. There are broad and diverse independent schools in Manchester on offer, so deciding upon placing your child in a school based upon pastoral and religious grounds, or whether same sex or mixed schools are considerations that will form the basis of your choice.
For more information regarding independent schools, state schools and relocating please visit: www.ofsted.gov.uk/schools
To apply for state primary or secondary schools, applications must go through your local council, links can be found below. Applications for private schools are done directly through the school.
If you would prefer your child to study for an internationally recognised qualification the International Baccalaureate (IB) is the perfect choice.
The International Baccalaureate (IB), formerly the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), is an international educational foundation. IB offers four educational programmes for children aged 3–19. Consequently, “IB” can refer to the organisation itself, any of the four programmes, or the diploma or certificates awarded at the end of the diploma programme. Their four programmes for students aged 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalising world.
