As a former chief executive of the Landscape Institute and director of strategy and planning at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Cook is ready to take on a new challenge in the real estate sector.

Announcing his new role at the Manchester Invest Partnership’s MIPIM launch event at The Stock Exchange Hotel on Wednesday 6 September, Cook expressed his enthusiasm for the city and for helping to raise the region’s profile at international property events.

Cook said,

“I’ve always been impressed with Manchester. It’s a city that shows real leadership on big issues and it’s a very inclusive city that wants to do business with the rest of the world.”

In his new role, Cook will be promoting both the international property conference MIPIM and the global retail real estate show MAPIC.

MAPIC will take place 28-30 November, while MIPIM is set during 12-15 March. Both events take place in Cannes and boast thousands of visitors and exhibitors.

Last year, RX Global recorded MIPIM attendance at 22,500. The organiser hopes to grow that number further in 2024 and has already announced that it will be welcoming delegations from Vietnam and Malaysia for the first time.

Cook will be working closely with the Manchester Invest Partnership to ensure that the city region makes the most of its time at MIPIM 2024. It’s hoped that through collaboration with the RX Global team the Manchester Invest Partnership can better position Greater Manchester as a leading global city and can share its ambitious growth plans to leaders within the property and real estate sector.

Speaking to Place North West, Cook said,

“It’s a really exciting time to be joining the team behind the most important events on the real estate calendar. At MIPIM and MAPIC I hope to lead the way by sharing insight, and future trends, and highlighting best practices, as we seek new ways to address the biggest issues facing global cities.

There is a fantastic opportunity to build on the success of MIPIM 2023 for the UK and Irish markets to create new collaborative partnerships, particularly between the public and private sector, whilst helping to connect those seeking to work together to build their businesses.”

Filippo Rean, the managing director of RX Global’s RX France division, described Cook’s appointment as “an exciting chapter in the growth and development of MIPIM and MAPIC.

“His passion for the future of cities and his extensive international experience make him exceptionally well-suited to connect cities, regions, governments, third-sector organizations, and industry leaders within the built environment, investment, and professional services sectors. "
